About Ken Sizemore

Ken Sizemore has been performing folk and early pop music all over the country for more than 40 years. As a folk singer and guitarist, Ken Plays the “classic” folk music of the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s—songs by such artists as Peter, Paul, and Mary, The Kingston Trio, Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie, John Denver, Gordon Lightfoot, Tom Paxton, Simon and Garfunkel, Don McLean and many others. Some of the pop artists that Ken includes in his repertoire are The Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, Neil Diamond, Jim Croce, Harry Belafonte, James Taylor, Roberta Flack, Ricky Nelson, Jimmy Rogers, and even Elvis Presley, and he also pays tribute to country greats by including songs by Johnny Cash, Kris Kristopherson, John Prine, Johnny Horton and Roger Miller.

While based in Nashville for almost 30 years, Ken performed as a solo artist, as part of the folk duo “Judith and Ken”, and with the folk trio “The Folk Revival”. He has done thousands of concerts, clubs, listening rooms, coffee houses, banquets, and festivals over the years and has played for audiences throughout the United States. He returns to Nashville several times a year to perform folk music programs.

Ken moved to Panama City in 1999, and has continued to perform all over the southeastern US since then.

In addition to playing concerts, coffee houses, and listening rooms, Ken has developed a number of programs that he presents to church groups, civic organizations, and clubs. His programs are developed around a topic or theme and feature lots of music as well as narration. A few of the titles of Ken's programs include:

Some highlights of Ken Sizemore appearances in 2009:

On January 9th, 2009, he was the opening show for the 12th professional season at the Dixie Theater in Apalachicola, Florida---it was Ken's 18th appearance at the Dixie.

On January 25th, Ken performed in front of a packed house at the First Unitarian Universalist Church Of Nashville, Tennessee.

On February 15th, a full house enjoyed Ken's concert of Environmental Songs in St. Augustine, Florida.

In March, Ken ranged from Panama City to Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and to Lakeland, Florida, performing folk music in all four cities.

In April, Ken took a break from performing to visit his son, daughter-in-law, and two grandsons in London!

On May 9th, "The Old Folkie" presented a Mother's Day weekend concert of Classic Folk Music in Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island, Florida, an event billed as "An Evening Of Story And Song".

In late May, Ken performed a concert of folk music AND classic "oldies" from the 50s and 60s in Daphne, Alabama---an event sponsored by the Daphne Public Library.

On June 5th and 6th, Ken performed two classic folk music concerts at the UU Congregation of Florence, Alabama.

On July 4th, Ken was the featured performer at the Dowtown Marketplace outdoor venue in Tallahassee, Florida. On July 5th, he performed his program "Songs Of Protest and Change---the 60s Revisited" for the UU Church of Tullahoma, Tennessee.

July 12 found Ken performing "Songs Of Justice, Equity, and Compassion" in Columbus, Ga. On July 26, he presented his program "For The Love of The Earth" to the UU Church in Dahlonega, Georgia.

On August 8th, Ken presented a concert of Classic Folk and Popular Songs for the 50th Year Reunion of the Class of 1959, Buckhorn High School, in New Market, Alabama. On August 15th, The Old Folkie was the "concert" half of a Dinner/Concert at the United Methodist Church of Pleasant Grove, Alabama, presenting to a full house a presentation of Classic Folk and Popular Music of the 50s, 60s, and 70s. On August 29th, Ken was again the featured performer at The Tallahassee Downtown Market Place outdoor arts and crafts event.

September 19th and 20th found Ken performing two concerts in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. On Saturday, he performed a concert of Classic Folk Music at The Garden Club of Hattiesburg. On Sunday, he presented a church service to the UU Fellowship of Hattiesburg entitled "Malvina Reynolds---A UU Songwriting Treasure". On September 26th, Ken made his third appearance of the year at The Tallahassee Downtown Market Place. And on September 27th, he presented a musical service to the UU Church of Oxford, Mississippi entitled "Justice, Equity, and Compassion--the 2nd UU Principle".

In early October, on the 3rd to be exact, Ken presented a program of protest songs called "Your Grandmother's Protest Songs" in Starkville, Mississippi---an event sponsored by the UU Fellowship of Tupelo. And on October 4th he played for the Tupelo UU group, performing his program called "Justice, Equity, and Compassion--the 2nd UU Principle". Also In October, Ken performed concerts and programs in Cookeville, Tenn., Pensacola, Florida, and Fairhope, Alabama

Highlights of November and October 2009 included shows in Panama City, Florida, Panama City Beach, Florida, Florence, Alabama, and Murfressboro, Tennessee. In November, Ken presented a concert of Classic Folk Music as part of the Homecoming Celebration at East Tennessee State University in Johnson City. In December, he gave his 11th annual Christmas Season Concert in Nashville, Tennessee---the venue was the Greater Nashville Unitarian Universalist Church.

So far in early 2010, Ken has performed in Valparaiso, Florida, as well as Panama City and Panama City Beach, and in Nashville and Cookeville, Tennessee.
